Lionel Messi Reaches 500th Goal for Barcelona in Last Minute Win Against Real Madrid in El Clasico

Lionel Messi scored twice against Real Madrid in El Clasico, including the last-minute winner, to reach 500 career goals with Barcelona. The 29 year old has now scored 23 career goals vs. Madrid and extended his own record in games between the two teams.

Barcelona is now level on points and holds the head-to-head advantage over with Real Madrid in La Liga, though Madrid has a game in hand. FiveThirtyEight’s Soccer Power Index gives Barcelona a 40 percent chance to win the title, which is up from 21 percent ahead of Sunday’s game.

Messi, who snapped a six-game scoreless streak in El Clasico, has scored against 68 different clubs and has netted scored 10+ goals vs. 20 different teams, including 23 vs Real Madrid.
